Outdoor 3D Range

Introduction

Blue Ridge Backwoods has leased space from a local landowner for an outdoor 3D course.  This course is located approximately one mile from the retail store and contains over 100 acres of woods, streams, and hillsides.  The course is set up in Mid-March (right before the first tournament) and torn down again after the last tournament in September.

Description of Outdoor 3D Tournaments

Each of the 3D tournaments will vary in the rules, scoring, and etc but there are certain basics which will always remain the same.

Registration for the tournament will be held on the day of the tournament at the Starter's Tent.

bulletA professional grade chronograph will be at the range and all bows may shoot a maximum of 280 feet per second (FPS) with a 3% margin for error.  A participant may still shoot with a bow that exceeds this limit - but their score will not count towards ASA or any club awards.
bulletFor class assignments, we follow the ASA guidelines.  We like these classes because they off  to archers the ability to compete with people with similar equipment and abilities.  The following minimum classes will be available at all tournaments:
bulletOpen B - for shooters who would normally shoot "Open" class at a sanctioned event.  Depending on turnout, we may put "Open A" and "Open B" classes together for a combined Open Class.
bulletOpen C- for shooters just starting out in the Open Classes.
bulletBow Hunter - for shooters that have a normal hunting setup.  This includes equipment restrictions such as fixed sight pins, shorter stabilizer bars, etc.  FOr exact requirements, please consult the rules that are published at the registration desk for each shoot.
bulletBow Hunter Novice
bulletYouth - for younger shooters.
bulletThere are five sets of stakes set for each tournament.  Each of the classes will be assigned a stake at the start of the tournament.  You must take all shots with some part of your body touching the colored stake.  The stakes and maximum yardages are as follows:
bulletBlue - Pro Stakes; 50 yard shot maximum
bulletOrange - Semi Pro & Open Stakes; 45 yard shot maximum
bulletGreen - Hunter Stakes; 40 yard shot maximum
bulletWhite - Youth, Women Bowhunter, Bowhunter Novice Stakes; 30 yard shot maximum
bulletYellow - Youth, Traditional, Novice Stakes; 20 yard shot maximum
